Join us for a creativity and community story-telling event
Crafting Sanctuary with Hestia, the Ancient Greek Goddess of Home
Saturday 25th April, 2-4:30pm.
Join us for warm and welcoming community creativity workshop.
In the ancient Greek culture, first-born Hestia was the goddess of home and of the fireplace. Though recipient of sacrifices in both public and private altars, she left no stories in her name. Nikita Gill, Indian-Irish poet and playwright, reimagines a world of bonding and nourishment blessed by Hestia’s serenity and wisdom. Fuelled by the warmth of her fireplace, in Gill’s poems Hestia speaks with a confident and comforting voice conjuring up a world of hospitality, love and peace, so badly needed in our times.
Using creative writing, art and collaborative storytelling, we will be inspired by Gill’s modern-day Hestia to explore what this forgotten goddess of sanctuary can do for our world today. We will think and write about those who need a safe place around Hestia’s hearth today, honouring Hestia’s signature features: fierce loyalty and long-lasting friendship. Hestia embodies the ancient symbol of good home and invites us to imagine ‘haven’ to gift to ourselves, each other and those in need of a fireplace under her protective gaze.
No previous experience necessary. This workshop has been designed as open to all, ages 16+. Kite Studios is an accessible space.
Donations welcomed at the workshop.
